Tightening your Christian Life

Tightening is an important aspect of mechanical engineering. There are various degrees of tightening based on the force applied. In contrast when we consider tightening in our Christian lives, we are looking at vices or commands in the New Testaments that are designed to protect and preserve us in the love of Jesus Christ.

What are some areas in your life that you need to tighten before you walk in eternity?

Tightening your Mind

Due to the nature of the times in which we live and the moral decay and deception around our lives, we are encouraged in the word of God to gird our minds with truth. “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:13)

We are commanded to tighten our minds with truth, this simply means we should not be open to the satanic rhetoric that the world is feeding people, this will cause us to not be sober in our thinking and lifestyle choices.

  1. The tightening of the mind means allowing the word of God to have free access to your mind, that will govern your way of thinking and filter everything else through the process of the word.

Tightening your mind will eliminate loose living and deception that comes through worldliness.

2. Tightening our waist with the belt of truth. The world is redefining what truth is. For many, truth is based on feelings, opinions, and the popular philosophy of the times. There are two aspects to truth.

·       Factual truth

·       Absolute truth

Factual Truth

Factual truth is scientifical and logical laws based on human understanding of life and events. This is not final because as men discover knowledge laws change. Do not base your faith on science and logics, they are subjective and can change with exposure to new knowledge.

Absolute Truth

Absolute truth is based on the authority of the word of God that is final and cannot change. The scriptures declare “For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” (Malachi 3:6)

Absolute truth is a person. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

·       Truth is Christ centered and of moral character

·       Truth is divine

·       God’s word is truth (John 17:17)

·       The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth (John 16:13)

We must be deliberate in tightening our loins with truth because it will hold us together in spiritual warfare and keep us from deception, delusion, and the spirit of the age. (2 Corinthians 4:4)

Truth affirms our identity in Christ and dispel doubt and fear, that are enemies of our salvation.

Tightening the Helmet of Salvation

We are called to tighten the helmet of salvation, helmet is used in protection of the most vulnerable part of the body in warfare this is called the helmet of salvation, which shows us that when we do not know that we are saved we are fighting a losing battle.

Many Christians are not assured that they are going to heaven because they do not have the assurance salvation.

Salvation is not based on your works but on Jesus finished work, and only faith in Him and Him alone can one receive salvation.

How do I know if I’m really Saved?

  • Putting faith in Jesus alone (1 John 5:13)
  • You have the inner witness in yourself (1 John 5:10)
  • Change in your nature (1 John 5:18)
  • The Holy Spirit bears witness (Romans 8:15)
  • You know and hear the voice of the Father – being able to discern the Father’s voice (John 10:27)
  • Having the fruit of the spirit (Galatian 5:21-22)
  • Having the power in you to obey God and resist sin (1 John 2:20)
  • Having the peace of God within your heart (Philippians 4:6)
  • The manifestation of the spirit of glory that brings persecution because of your lifestyle (1 Peter 4:14)
  • When signs follow you (Mark 16:17)
